This article is about the object. For the series, see Puyo series. For its first game, see Puyo Puyo.
Puyo are a round, blobby species of jelly-like organisms in the Puyo series, as well as it's sister game, Madou Monogatari. The are the fundamental basis of life in the Compile Worlds, created by Eldora. When four or more of them connect, they are erased from existence with a spell called Owanimo, cast by Eldora herself. Puyo come in several different shapes. Traditionally, only 5 (sometimes 6) colors are seen, but some games feature a plethora of unusual colors, such as orange and lavender. Shapes and expressions also vary by color
Puyo series
In the Puyo games, the Puyo are usually indigenous to all the worlds they appear in 3/3Madou WorldPrimpPuyo Wars World. They are seen in five main colors: green Puyo with a neutral expression, red Puyo with an angry expression, blue Puyo with a sad expression and swirl-shape, yellow Puyo with a happy expression and tear drop shape, and purple Puyo with an annoyed or suspicious expression. In some rare cases, pink Puyo with special properties appear. In the games, all the characters "play Puyo", which involves arranging Puyo in such a way that purposely popping one group leads to popping another in a chain reaction, which then fuels the character's magic spells or physical attacks.
Variants
- Ojama/Nuisance
- These Puyo represent the attack power of a chain. The more there are, the stronger the attack is. If they fill the field, you lose the game. They are transparent and don't pop normally.
- Hard
- These Puyo are similar to the above, except they are opaque and are even stronger than normal Ojama. Some bitches thought it would be hilarious to cover their stages in rows of them in Puyo Puyo~n.
- Point
- Once again, they are similar to Ojama Puyo, except popping them rewards the player with extra trash. Yay!
- Sun
- Special Point Puyo generated by the Puyo Sun when it is angered by offsetting.
- Carbuncle
- Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine claimed this guy to be a variety of Puyo, but we all know that's just plain wrong.
- Indestructible
- Indestructible Black Puyo (occasionally depicted with menacing or Ekoronian faces) that just like to get in your way. Isn't that annoying?! What's worse is that Doppelganger Arle can turn entire rows of Puyo into this kind on the GBC games as much as she wants.
- Chuu
- Pink Ojama Puyo with lovestruck faces. They make scary "Chuu" noises as they fall into the field.
- Ice Blocks
- Frozen Puyo that fall in patterns, replacing Ojama Puyo.
F.O.E.Even in your Puyo game... F.O.E.
Madou Monogatari
The Puyo's first chronological appearance was the Madou Monogatari games, where they played the role of minor enemies. Knowing what they would become later, they are relatively unimportant here. Witch also has to kill truck loads of them in Comet Summoner, so she can get it more!
Puyo Wars
In Puyo Wars, however, the Puyo become the main focus of the entire game. The Puyo are revealed to have been created by Eldora. However, humans soon discovered a special power that could be harvested from the Puyo. Ultimately, this power fell into evil hands and started an all out war, causing the humans to extinct themselves. This event also lead to the Planetary Gods of Gaias erasing Puyo's existence from the world in the following repopulation of the planet. However, a certain scientific Professor discovered ancient tablets describing Puyo, and he was able to recreate Puyo. Soon, they became domestic pets and it even became a hobby for children to have "Protector Battles", sponsored by Protector Corp..
Puyo Wars goes to make a distinct difference between organic Puyo created by Eldora and synthetic Puyo created by the Professor. Both are somewhat intelligent, being able to follow commands and pilot Protectors by themselves, but only natural Puyo are capable of speaking human language. Some Puyo were reincarnated as People by Eldora, while others have been mutated into dangerous monsters. Still others became the basis for a powerful species of biological weapons. There is only one human who can understand and communicate to the synthetic Puyo.
Trivia
- Contrary to popular belief, a Puyo is
nota Japanese car! But it looks ridiculous~!
