Popoi is a demonic black cat that is also a puppet. He first appeared in Puyo Puyo Fever, under the ownership of Ms. Accord. The two were quickly revealed to be in cahoots to violate their <[#linkfarm [item Amitie|Raffine] [tpl fellow students]]> with a flying cane. Needless to say, this plan almost failed, and were it not for the convenience of a giant mallet pulled from hammerspace, Popoi's sinister allegations would have surely been exposed. In the subsequent games, Popoi plays dumb by pretending to be Accord's sarcastic alter ego, lashing out in blunt, cruel words. However, Zoh Daimaoh and Akuma revealed the stupidity behind it all and tried to ruin the dynamic duo once again. Popoi once again narrowly avoided being exposed by turning himself into a projectile weapon of mass destruction.

In Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, he appears not only as Accord's dastardly sidekick, but also runs a shop (which has it's own special yellow button). Popoi's past is widely unknown. It's not even sure where he came from or why Accord came to be his main tool in his destructive schemes. Regardless, he eventually came to be the "Prince of Darkness", pretending to be Accord's idiot puppet cat in order to draw suspicion away from himself and to his pawn. In an act of betrayal of conniving wit, Popoi came to be in possession of Accord's Flying Cane, though why is uncertain. No one, even us at Kumizone, knows exactly whether Popoi the Demon and Popoi the Puppet are one and the same, or are two different entities. One might ask "who cares?", but this relationship serves as the second biggest plot hole SEGA's created and danced around to date, the first being Shadow the Hedgehog, of course.

Popoi's motives are as mysterious as his origins. Much like Ekoro and Accord, Popoi is a bit of a nomad and a hider; hiding places and never staying in one place too long. What has been seen of Popoi shows that he appears to be extremely sadistic, as all of his victims are slowly and/or painfully tortured, blackmailed and traumatized. He is also a master of manipulation, as shown by the fact that he is able to control both Accord and Tarutaru as willing pawns. Apparently, he also has an acquired taste for Norwegian Black Metal, calling Draco a racist asshole for dissing on it.

Nevertheless, the exact nature of Popoi has been speculated.

Popoi has also made small appearances in the on going Subete PuyoPuyo role play, as documented below.

Popoi's power is quite uncertain, unlike that of nearly any other Compile Worlds antagonist thus far. Judging from past events, Popoi is stated to be an extremely powerful dark mage, though this has never been seen. However, he has been able to shrug off multiple attacks, suggesting a strong resistance to normal magic, if nothing else. Also of note is that Popoi is a quick-escape artist, able to make epic get-aways at the most convenient of times. He is also a shop keeper in his spare time, and is implied to be able to share his near-invulnerability with Accord.

Despite being nearly omnipresent the entire time, Popoi has become one of the main antagonists of Subete PuyoPuyo. Many of his evil deeds have affected a member of the ADMA in someway or another, and thus it is their personal goal to off him, though it is fairly difficult to do so since his appearances are so sparse. He is shown to have a sarcastic wit, demonstrated when he insisted to Mikki that he was a Pool filter. He is also capable of heavy dark magic, and though the extent of this power is not clear, he could use it to black mail or even force Accord to do things against her will. The Satan Arc also revealed that Popoi is fluent in Italian and has a taste for Norwegian Black Metal, claiming he has "the finest" taste in music because of it (though this in itself is questionable).

Popoi then was semi featured as a prominent villain of the Accord Arc, where it was revealed at the very end that he had orchestrated the entire ordeal, possibly to kill Accord herself. Popoi made his only in person appearance in the entire arc, and his second appearance to date, in Episode 7, where he reveals he and Accord used TaruTaru to learn the secret location of Draco's Hut, the temporary and crowded HQ of the ADMA at the time. Popoi attempted to enact a survival game show called Jump to Conclusions, but failed due to the stubbornness of the ADMA. Eventually Popoi's sharp tongue lashing annoyed Witch enough to shoot a lightning bolt off at him, but he seemed seldom fazed. During the confusion and chaos, Sig exploded in an emotional rage, giving Popoi and Accord the perfect cover for their escape, taking the still caged TaruTaru with them. Later Accord confessed Popoi was pawning her the entire time as she burned to death. In light of her unfortunate circumstances, the ADMA renamed themselves and swore to avenge Accord by killing Popoi. He hasn't appeared or been mentioned since. With his whereabouts unknown, and the rise and fall of the vile Ekoro (psych!), he vanished into obscurity.

**In both these appearances, he was played by User:Black Amendment... who will <s>eventually</s> never play him again.

*It is interesting to note that in Puyo Puyo Quest, Popoi refers to only the puppet form of Popoi, while Black Popoi refers to the demon cat version seen in Puyo Puyo Fever. Whether that means that the demon Popoi is canonically called Black Popoi or not is a mystery.

Both times Popoi appeared, he was played by Son-X, informally known in the chat logs as Yellow Puyo. He has expressed explicitly he will not reprise the role for the inevitable Popoi Arc, or any future cameo appearences.

Popoi is an demonic cat puppet in the Puyo series and a major antagonist in Compile Worlds. He is thought to be the evil mastermind behind both Puyo Puyo Fever and the Pre-Meteor Arc shenanigans, and is widely known more for his terrifying(?) power as a dark mage than he is as Ms. Accord's pet puppet. Though his legacy as a villain lives on to this very day, he has mostly been an omnipresent threat; only appearing in 2 episodes. It is his antics that spurred the creation of the Anti Dark Magic Alliance. Recently however, he showed up aiding Accord in doing good... albeit rather reluctantly.

Biography

Popoi's past is widely unknown. It's not even sure where he came from or why Accord came to be his main tool in his destructive schemes. Regardless, he eventually came to be the "Prince of Darkness", pretending to be Accord's idiot puppet cat in order to draw suspicion away from himself and to his pawn. In an act of betrayal of conniving wit, Popoi came to be in possession of Accord's Flying Cane, though why is uncertain. Popoi was defeated by both Amitie and Raffine, sending Popoi back to his puppet form for a very long time. Recently however, he has completely separated from Accord.

Etymology

The origin of Popoi's name is not known at the time of this revision. (Or maybe just not by the person writing)

Trivia

  • Popoi has only appeared in two episodes.
    • In both these appearances, he was played by User:Black Amendment... who will eventually never play him again.
  • It is interesting to note that in Puyo Puyo Quest, Popoi refers to only the puppet form of Popoi, while Black Popoi refers to the demon cat version seen in Puyo Puyo Fever. Whether that means that the demon Popoi is canonically called Black Popoi or not is a mystery.
