Cream the Rabbit is a cute anthropomorphic rabbit from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is the daughter of Vanilla the Rabbit, and has two twin Chao pets, Cheese the Chao and Chocola Chao. During the Dreamcast era and Sonic X in particular, Cream joins Sonic the Hedgehog as one of his many amigos to set Dr. Eggman straight, often as the game's "Easy mode" character.

Background Information

Vanilla and Cream have lived peacefully together for six years, in the Green Hill Zone according to Sonic X, for her whole life. She was raised to be polite by Vanilla, and almost all pre-release media wanted to shove this down your throats. Soon, however, Eggman kidnaps both Cream and Vanilla (having possibly changed his mind about furries?) and set off to commit unknown dastardly deeds with them as hostages. Cream though was rescued by Sonic, and has since joined his side as a companion, befriending Amy Rose, Big the Cat, Blaze the Cat, and damn well near every other cast member while she was at it.

Cream is a very polite and well-mannered little girl, being "brought up like a princess" (whatever that means). She is even polite to her enemies, and is somewhat naive, believing that she can change Eggman's bad ways if she works hard enough. She is also a pacifist, detesting violence. Cream would rather solve her problems through friendship, words, and peacekeeping than through fighting. She is easily prone to crying and having her feelings hurt as a result. Despite being surrounded by a chaotic world, Cream is determined to be happy and make others happy as well, showing an unprecedented level of selflessness for a character in the series. Because she believes there is good in everyone, she mistakenly thinks people like Shadow the Hedgehog will help her in times of need.

Cream, despite her nature, is an asset Sonic can count on. Her strengths rely in her ability to fly, a unique movement pattern, and her purity of heart. Her heart is so pure, in fact, that she has the most ridiculously broken healing capabilities of any normal character in the series. Her secret weapon, Cheese, is also a deadly, Eggman shredding force, making speed running bosses a cinch! She's also somehow hardwired some Omochao into deadly flash bombs that she can burry into the ground. However, her reluctance to fight and her emotional weakness prove to be vital downfalls. In Sonic X, she is even shown to be a favorite target of Eggman's kidnapping schemes and meat shielding, using her as blackmail leverage for a good portion of the show.

Appearances

Sonic Advance 2
Cream is the first character the player unlocks, giving them an easy way to get the Chaos Emeralds for the game's true ending.
Sonic Heroes
Cream appears here as Team Rose's flight member, thus dooming Amy and Big to be tutorial characters with them and dragging them into a deplorable tutorial stage.
Sonic Battle
Cream plays the role of a child abuse victim of Amy, who beats her up to satisfy her apparent anorexia. She's also one of the best fighters in the game, ironically.
Sonic Rush
Having had enough of Amy's shit, Cream decides to be Blaze's sidekick instead and teaches her how to make friends.
Sonic 06
Cream was going to appear in this game, according to some unused text, but was silently axed. She laughs in the distance at those not as fortunate as her.
Sonic Chronicles
Cream appears once again to reprise her role as an overpowered, but completely negligible healer. She also resists mind control from the evil Voxai race!
Sonic RP
Cream is a major reoccurring character in this canon, where she is celebrated for her pure heart and targeted by many evil people for the power it gives her.

In most of Cream's other appearances, she is either an unlockable Fly type character, or else a worthless cameo. Sometimes, she appears to be involved with the game's plot, but not actually be playable. Her obnoxious voice acting serves only to irritate you in modern times.

Etymology

Cream's name comes from the color of her fur. Additionally, it puns with Vanilla to make "Vannila Cream", and with Cheese to make "Cream Cheese". If you put all three together, it makes "Vanilla Cream Cheese" though, and that's just completely silly! It may also come from "Ice cream", her favorite food.

Trivia

  • Cream is the only Sonic character in the present day with a known parent; Eggman's parents are unknown and his grandfather is dead, while Tikal and Her father have been dead for centuries. Pretty spooky, isn't it?
    • She is named after a foodstuff, like Eggman, and also a peaceful pacifist, like Tikal.
  • Cream has similar overall colors and shoe design to Chris Thorndyke.
  • Cream is one of the few characters created prior to Sonic Heroes who lacks her own theme song. The closest she has is the Library theme in Sonic Battle.
