Tikal (EntityTopic, 7)
From Compile Worlds
Tikal is an Knuckles Tribe echidna princess who made her debut in Sonic Adventure. She was a central plot character of the aforementioned game, and also a key piece of Knuckles the Echidna's backstory, but her future appearances are relegated to mostly cameos.
Biography
Several thousand years ago, Tikal was the daughter of ancient Knuckles Clan chief Pachamac. Her grandmother passed on the legends of the 7 Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald down to her when she was growing up. Later, when the Knuckles Clan began warring with Imperator Ix and his Nocturnus Tribe, Tikal attempted to stop Pachamac from stealing the Chaos Emeralds to win the war, but no such luck. Tikal went as far as physically blocking the way to the shrine, but she and several Chao were trampled by Pachamac's armymen regardless. This angers Chaos, whom Tikal had become good friends with, and Chaos absorbs the emeralds himself, almost eclipsing the Knuckles Tribe single-handedly in the process. Tikal seals herself and Chaos away as a desperate last attempt to save her people from total destruction, and only barely succeeded.
Tikal has been shown to have the same radar-like sense for the Master Emerald, like Knuckles and Rouge the Bat, though hers is significantly weaker. She also can project herself as a ball of light and show interactive flashbacks of the past. Finally, she can cause earthquakes or summon bolts of lightning to stall others, but only in Sonic Adventure 2.
Etymology
Tikal's name seems to come from the ancient Mayan city of the same name, being related to Sonic Team's studies of South America for inspiration.
In Alternate SEGA
In the Alternate SEGA metaverse, Tikal appears as a playable character in Sonic 4, which is Sonic Adventure's closest analog.
