From Compile Worlds

X is the so-called Keeper of Space-Time (時空の番人) in Puyo Puyo Tetris, as well as being the game's final boss. He is an odd looking fellow with a white X in his hair and vibrant, colorful clothing reminiscent of clowns. His attack phrases relate to game mechanics, such as "Speed up" and "Hard Drop" (and even Hyper Hard Drop), and he is the father of S. He also used to be the "Tetris King" (テトリス王者) until this title was apparently granted to T.

Background information

Not much is known about X's past, other than that he was formerly hailed as the Tetris King. Presumably, he had to forfeit this title to the next strongest person in the Tetris World, T, once he ascended to the position of Keeper of Space-Time. However, he soon became lonely and found he could not perform his duties efficiently (and with a person like Ecolo running around, how could you blame him really). Thus, he brought the Tetris World and the Compile Worlds together, but could not forsee nor stop the disastrous side-effects on his own.

Etymology

X may come from the "X" in the logo of the game itself, which features a giant "X". Furthermore, this X is white, not unlike the one in the character's hair, and may additionally represent a "cross", as in the crossover between the two different series. X also looks like the Greek letter χ (Chi), which is often pronounced similarly to "key", perhaps to signify his importance. Finally, X may refer to the X pentomino.

Trivia

• In the in-game files, he is referred to as "MST". This may be an abbreviation of "Master", and is similar to how Ecolo was called "BOSS" in Puyo Puyo 7.
  • This may also be in reference to Tetris Grand Master, as well as reference to him being the so-called King of Tetris.
