Silver the Hedgehog (EntityTopic, 7)

From Compile Worlds

Silver the Hedgehog is yet another frekkin hedgehog in the Sonic series. He comes from 200 years in the future to stop his Bad Future from being, well, bad. However, because that creates a paradox, Silver never bothers to actually go back, deciding that the past is way past cool...er.

Background Information

Silver comes from the future of Earth, where it is similar to the present, but also completely ravaged by the savage Eggman Nega (and Iblis in Sonic 06). In order to escape this destiny more terrible than stealing 40 cakes, Silver harnessed Chaos Control and went back in time to stop the whole mess from even happening. In the canon timeline, this involves defeating Dr. Eggman and making sure that his future insane descendant is a bit more stable. Because he seems to have accomplished this mission, he never goes back to his own time to complete the process of rewriting history... derp.

Silver is a young defender of justice, with an attitude for anyone that gets in his way on his missions. He's a bit naive at times though, and sometimes has moments of self doubt and doesn't know what the right course of action is. Despite this, Silver remains an optimistic character, powering through the despair and seeking to overcome the odds. He takes his rivalry with Sonic the Hedgehog a little less seriously than the others, needing to work with him at times to achieve his goals. He can appear hostile if he feels that he is being distracted, but is otherwise very friendly. Silver always stands up for his friends, especially Blaze the Cat, who was teased for her pyrokinesis when she was young.

Silver, having come from the future, has developed advanced psychokinetic powers and telekinesis. Using these powers, he can float, move heavy objects, and attack his enemies. He can also fight hand-to-hand if necessary, though unlike his other Hedgehog peers, this doesn't work for him as well. He's also not as fast as the others, especially while floating. He is also emotionally vulnerable, easy to be manipulated by big time villains such as Mephilies, though he's not as easily fooled by obvious tricksters like Nega.

Appearances

Sonic 06
Silver's first appearance... except it doesn't take actually take place in Sonic history. Isn't it sad, Silver?
Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2
Silver's first canon appearance, where he is the only one that recognizes that Eggman Nega is the true evil behind the plans to kill the poor Chao.
Sonic and the Black Knight
Silver represents Sir Gawain in the game's multiplayer mode... and since Shadow is playing the role of Sir Lancelot, that makes him Shadow's son. How awkward.
Sonic Generations
Silver comes back to make Sonic fight for the Chaos Emeralds by recreating their epic battle from Sonic 06!... Wait, that can't be right?!

In Silver's few other appearances, he is usually a playable Fly type character. Most of the time, he's not relevant to the story of the game if it has one. SEGA decided that a time traveling paradox was too hard to manage for once apparently. Poor Silver.

Etymology

Silver, like several other characters named after colors, is named after the color of his quills. His original name, Venice, comes from Venice, Italy, the very place that Soleana was based upon.

Triva

  • Fan speculation poses the possibility that one day, Silver the Hedgehog could be staring in his own game. The only evidence behind the theory however, comes from an interview, saying that Takeshi Iizuka purposely gave him the same initials as Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog so eventually, the three could see their own games next to each other on game shelves.
  • The strange hair-like quills on Silver's forehead rested against his head when not using his PK powers, and only stood up when he used them. This was probably changed to give him a silhouette distinct to that of Sonic and Shadow while in a resting position.
