From Compile Worlds

Compile is a company who started making video games when we played them on things like the crappy old MSX and PC98. In particular, they are responsible for the creation of Madou Monogatari, which in turn lead to the accidental overnight success of a puzzle game spin-off Puyo Puyo. While they continued to develop cheap shooters and Madou dungeon crawlers for outdated hardware, Puyo remained their most successful series, and a strong, almost biased partnership with SEGA resulted in the most definitive versions of these games appearing on SEGA consoles. Puyo Puyo TSU was met with great success, and even now competitive purists still play it on arcade machines in Japan. Puyo Puyo SUN came next, though despite having Lagnus the Brave in it, the new rules were received with lukewarm reviews. In return, Puyo Puyo~n was received even more poorly between its slow gameplay and unbalanced super powers. The repeated Puyo flops, as well as the steadily increasing number of RPG spin offs they produced 4/4MMSMadou Monogatari: The Final TestPuyo WarsArle's Adventure, caused Compile to lose money rapidly. They sold the rights to all the characters (and game) of Puyo Puyo to SEGA, who then proceeded to throw them all in a trash can while Yuji Naka made new characters. Meanwhile, the remains of Compile filed for bankruptcy, the staff splitting apart and becoming two smaller companies, one of which became Compile Heart.
