Planetary Gods of Gaias (EntityTopic, 24)

From Compile Worlds

(Redirected from PGoGs)

The Planetary Gods of Gaias are a group of five gods and goddesses, plus their leader, that appear in Puyo Wars and possibly Madou Monogatari. As their name implies, they create, destroy and govern the world of Gaias, and have at least some influence over the various other Compile worlds, including the Madou World, the Puyo Wars World, and Lagnus' home world which was destroyed by Yoggus. By the time the events of Puyo Wars take place, they are at least five to six thousand years old. At the end of the game, Angol Mois witnesses a vision of the last meeting the five gods had together prior to the events of the game.

Kanon
The leader of the gods. She appears only as a glimmering orb of light, though she may actually only project herself as such due to being an otherwise imposing figure. She appears with the others to settle the quarreling and decide the punishment of the dissenting gods' betrayals. She was entirely capable of stopping Angol before he even did anything, but she never bothered, because she apparently didn't have permission to. Well, it's a good thing for us, cause we got a game out of it.
Eldora
Eldora has the most prominent appearance in the stories we know and love, although she's not actually any more important than any of the four other members. She is to blame for creating/summoning Angol in the first place (although her intention in doing so was to save a probably unrelated different world, and she was unaware that Angol would turn into a madman), and is also responsible for reincarnating Sho and Marin from Puyo into humans. Much earlier on in her life, she had declared Lagnus a hero for slaying an unnamed oracle on a different planet. She is expelled by Kanon for her dissenting actions, though she is allowed to remain the goddess of Gaias when the others abandon it for some reason...
Issac
The first god that appears in their meeting, he has the most stereotypical appearance, being bearded with a dominant chin. He seems to be the defacto leader of the five, calling the shots on molting the planet and getting angry when Eldora and her lovers dissent against his decision. He declares Gaias is ruined and abandons it when Eldora wins the vote against molting the planet.
Omega
The second god that appears, he is wrapped from head to toe in bandages, other than his right eye and a tuffet of hair. He is one of Eldora's two lovers, and attempts to outnumber Isaac and Ishtaris in the vote to molt Gaias. His dialogue in game is only implied, possibly to emphasize the bandages muffling his speech. He is condemned to mortality as punishment for his dissenting actions.
Weather (Weza)
The third god that appears, he resembles a more traditional Japanese deity, with long hair and a slightly long head. He is one of Eldora's two lovers, and attempts to outnumber Isaac and Ishtaris in the vote to molt Gaias. He describes himself as a "Crappy major general". Weather is condemned to mortality as punishment for his dissenting actions.
Ishtaris
The last of the gods to appear, she is the only other female. Her long hair and pointy ears give her a resemblance to Jan from the aforementioned Madou game. Like the others, not much is known about her, other than that she is quite mouthy for a goddess. She abandons Gaias with Issac when Eldora wins the vote against molting the planet.

Etymology

The Planetary Gods all seem to be named after religious or mythological concepts:

  • Eldora is named after El Dorado, the mythical lost city of gold.
  • Isaac is named after Isaac, the third patriarch in the Old Testiment.
  • Omega is named after the Alpha and Omega metaphor used in the Christian Bible.
  • Weather seems to draw from the many gods in polytheistic religions that were said to control the weather.
  • Ishtaris may be named after Ishtar, a Mesopotamian deity representing love and fertility.
