Kuri Robotnik (with Curry being considered as an alternate, English spelling) is an original character created by Chao. He appears in Sonic Legends as Dr. Eggman's son from the future, much like Silver the Hedgehog or Dr. Eggman Nega (according to Sonic Rivals, anyway). He traveled back in time in order to help the present Eggman take over the world, but he has failed in executing this.

Character Concept

Kuri was originally created by Chao in order to further develop Eggman's character in Sonic Legends. His initial designs did not feature long hair or his signature goggles, which were actually inspired by a Sonic Riders-esque design Chao granted him. His personality also morphed over the years, initially being used as a more soft-hearted character, he now has no problem doing the evil bidding of his father. San has since been retconned from his name.

His (currently unknown) mother lent Kuri several of her traits to Kuri, including a more human-like face and long hair. Eggman, however, influenced Kuri's short stature and thin limbs. Chao leaves to speculation which parent he inherited his (normal-looking) eyes from. His googles and attire are based on those of Eggman, though in a more teen-friendly fashion sense.

Biography

Kuri grew up learning of Eggman's schemes to take over the world. Of course, being a descendant of Eggman, he also developed a strong interest in science and robotics. By this time, however, Eggman has no ambitions to keep his plan moving in the future. Will initially only disappointed his father could not achieve his dream, as he grew older, he decided to take action himself, building a time travel capsule. He sent himself back in time with the capsule, and he hoped to change history, not thinking about the consequences this would have.

Kuri is a mischievous, intelligent boy, much like his father. Also much like his father, he is prone to having moments of childish glee. However, unlike Eggman, he is mature enough to avoid throwing hissy fits whenever things go wrong. Rather, he might lose his cool and panic, or shake off his anger. Being younger, he is also more suave and witty than his old father. Despite his charm, sometimes he may come off as spoiled, likely because Eggman did spoil him during his childhood. Regardless of his evil, misguided ways, Kuri, like Eggman draws a line. Unlike other villains in Sonic Legends, he is not capable of bringing himself to kill, much less mortally injure, innocent children and other characters of the sort.

Etymology

Kuri roughly translates to "Chestnut" from Japanese, which is the color of his and Eggman's hair. Chestnuts are also a type of nut, typically consumed around the holidays. When spelled in romaji, it looks like "curry", thus creating food puns with the Eggman name....but, who eats things like "Curry Eggs" or "Vanilla Cream Cheese" anyway?
