Evil red clones occur quite often in the Puyo Puyo series. They often take on the role of being the final boss of the game.
Evil red clones can also be stupid recolors of Sonic the Hedgehog made by n00bs in an attempt to create a remotely interesting character. Alas though, even for seasoned Sonic character designers like Chao, it is ridiculously difficult to create a decent looking hedgehog without stealing Sonic's anatomy.
