Moon Zone (InstanceTopic, 9)

The Moon Zone is the secret extra zone of Sonic Advance. As per the unimaginative name's suggestion, the zone takes place on the moon. It is unlocked by finishing the X-Zone as Sonic the Hedgehog with all 7 Chaos Emeralds. Here, only Super Sonic fights yet another giant mecha-Eggman boss. The robot pretty much throws moon dust into Sonic's eyes to distract him long enough to use his laser. Beating the boss shows you the good ending, where Sonic somehow escapes the moon's gravity and falls out of the sky back to Earth only to be somehow caught by Tails in his biplane. How that collision isn't fatal, nobody knows.
The boss's background music is one of the most epic in the game. However, it still doesn't beat the Cosmic Angel boss theme or that of the next game's equivalent, True Area 53.
Trivia
- The American Strategy guide for the game calls the boss the "Super Egg Machine" (SEM).
- The name sounds so retarded, Chao thinks it's a good name to differentiate it from its other Eggbot cousins.
- The zone is also responsible for ruining the speedrun of the game on Speed Demos Archive.
- Chao has remixed the Moon Zone song four times, and he's still not satisfied with the end result.
- The capsules the SEM uses to capture Super Sonic vaguely resemble Pac-Man.
- In this zone, Super Sonic can only hover really low to the ground, and has to "jump" to even reach the SEM's damn face.
- There's a rumor that you can access the Moon Zone by drowning immediately after beating the Ice Mountain Zone boss. However, this is false, or at least it never worked when Keiji tried it.
