Lyra is the female protagonist of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and replacing Krys, causing much controversy. She can either fill the protagonist's role, or be an annoying NPC, depending on how you answer Professor Oak's bizarre questionnaire. Despite being "designed from scratch", her design contains numerous elements from that of Krys, from which at least part of the controversy stems.

In the games, she helps disband the newly reformed Team Rocket, along with bringing Kanto (er... Blue) out of a depression and finally defeating Red, becoming the theoretical Pokémon Master. She also, much like every other female before her, got an anime counterpart to dangle in front of the audiences, of course playing a more major role than her male counterpart.
