Nanako is Keiji's home server. Her main job is dishing up random files throughout the LAN. She used to serve HTTP too, but due to Keiji's sucky upstream it's simply impractical given the existence of Gollum.
Etymology
Nanako was bought in early 2008. Keiji's usual naming scheme is cYYYY, where Y is the year of purchase. However, "c2008" was already taken by his awesome new laptop, meaning he had to come up with a new name. Eventually she was named after Nanako Dojima from Persona 4 during some otherwise inconsequential AIM chat.
2012 Up-and-down-grade
As of Sun July 22, 2012, Nanako is running on older hardware, but newer software. This was done because Keiji acquired an older, but still perfectly fine PC, which had no PCI-E slots; however, Nanako had a PCI-E x16 slot which had never been used, and he needed one of those to main Linux without disrupting c2009 again. So, he swapped them over. The older computer became Nanako, and Nanako's original hardware will become main (and ironically, be renamed to c2008, since the laptop which previously took that name is now gone).
The changes in specifications are:
- Motherboard: WinFast to Asrock (better, because WinFast is absolute rubbish and causes GRUB error 15s and 17s randomly)
- RAM: 1024 MB DDR 2 to 512 MB DDR (technically worse, but Nanako never used anywhere near that much RAM; she could probably run just fine on a mere 128 MB!)
- Hard disk space: 1000 GB + 80 GB to 1000 GB + 500 GB (better, and she will actually need that space)
- Processor: ???? to 2GHz single-core 32-bit Intel i686 (most likely worse, but I haven't found out what the original processor was yet)
- Operating system: Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to Debian Wheezy (MUCH better)
- Console: 80x25 (at 640x400) hardware text mode to 160x64 (at 1280x1024) framebuffer (GLORIOUS!)
