Cornelia, also known as Corledria, is an original character created by Chao for Sonic RPG's sequels. She is a warmongering demon who ultimately seeks total conquest of the entire planet. She also appears in Sonic Legends, where she is a nominally reoccurring antagonist, usually teaming up with Dr. Eggman or carrying out her agenda by herself.

Character Concept

In her earliest conceptualization, Cornelia was only a demon/mage who served to possess Cream the Rabbit about halfway through Sonic RPG 2. At this point her name was ridiculously elongated to Corlinedia, and her design was not concrete. Later on, she became more fleshed out, to the point of becoming the primary antagonist. Her design was finally settled on, with inspiration mainly taken from Panel De Pon's Cordelia, as well as Zelda, and her name was shortened to just Cornelia. Though Sonic RPG 2 never materialized (outside of Alternate SEGA anyway), Chao continued to tweak and modify Cornelia into a more fleshed out character. The Kanji on her clothing, "角", can mean "sharp" or "angle", which fits in to her rather pointy design elements.

Biography

Cornelia began life several thousand years ago as a demon named Corledria. Mostly formless, it sought a human body to give itself an intimidating form and strong military power. It chose a queen named Cornelia, who's kingdom was strong, yet benevolent. Cornelia initially resisted the possession, but slowly, she lost the mental war, and Corledria took complete control, adopting Cornelia's name, and using both her army and her demonic powers to wage a conquest of the ancient land. She conquered and annexed many other kingdoms under this strategy, ruling the ever so growing kingdom with an iron fist. She also grew ever so more powerful, crafting and perfecting the Death Bolt spell. Cornelia's sister, the Divine Lady Rose, could no longer take watching her possessed sibling destroy her own kingdom. Rose crafted the Crystal Orb to imprison Cornelia. She succeeded in sealing away Cornelia, but ultimately, her sister lost her soul in the process. Rose hid the orb away in a temple, and as Rose and the ancient kingdom faded away, the orb and the demon became but myth. According to Sonic RPG 2's plot, Eggman would eventually attempt to unseal her.

Overall, Cornelia is a very sadistic character. She loves watching people suffer, hurt, and even die. As such, she makes it a priority to torture her victims to prolong her enjoyment. Cornelia also shows no compassion to anyone but herself or those like her, taking her torture and killing overboard on some people. She loves to drink blood, so she licks the blood of all her victims off her fingers, both as an insult and to "see how they taste", somehow being able to taste differences in their blood. She is ruthless and savage in battle, especially when unleashing her true demon power and form. She is also an expert seductress, using her sex appeal to attract potential partners for her twisted conquest, and eventually reproduction of her demonic genes. Cornelia is also rather power hungry, as demonstrated by her need to create Death Bolt and take advantage of an army. She also has an extremely foul temper, going completely insane when she is frustrated or exasperated.

Cornelia's power well exceeds that of any normal human. For physical combat, she has mutated large claws on her human form to swipe at her victims in a feral manner. She may also levitate at will. She also has access to an array of magical attacks, ranging from shooting bullets of energy, to creating trailing lines of tall explosions, and of course, Death Bolt. When her human form alone cannot take care of her victim(s), or when she is out at war, she will transform into her true demon form, where her physical and magical capabilities are amplified. However, she can be easily killed if one is to destroy the Crystal Orb completely. Shattering the Orb will also shatter her soul, causing her to cease existing until the orb is put back together. In demon form, she is completely tethered to the Crystal Orb, unable to leave it's general vicinity. When she is close enough, this tethering takes the form of an odd, cat-tail shaped appendage extending from her spine.

Etymology

Cornelia is a given girls name, chosen for it's similarity to Cordelia. Corledria is a reference to both Cordelia and her original name.

Trivia

• In the Sonic RPG series, Cornelia has quite the penchant for possessing other characters, first the human Cornelia, then Cream, and, in an unused plot draft of the first Sonic RPG, a Chao mage named Chaococoa.
• In Sonic RPG 2, Cornelia's death sequence was to have her make a distorted, ear-splitting scream. However this never materialized.
  • Her battle theme in the aforementioned game was going to be a remix of True Area 53.
• To this date in, in the fanon, Cornelia is still the only primary antagonist who is female; all other female antagonists are secondary, or otherwise answer to a higher up.
• Cornelia has shown up in all of the staged epic battle episodes of the RP.
  • In one of them, she went as far as murdering Cream, which prematurely ended the battle.
  • Coincidentally, she didn't appear since that episode and before the reboot.
• It is unknown how she can lick the blood off her fingers, given she wears gloves over them.
• Despite being an antagonist, Cornelia's color scheme consists of bright colors that are normally associated with positiveness, such as pink and yellow.
• Currently, Cornelia is the tallest human character created by Chao, at a whopping 6 feet and 2 inches (or about 1.88 meters).
  • This makes her nearly twice as tall as Sonic, who is 3'7".
