Data East (ConceptTopic, 4)
From Compile Worlds
Data East is an obscure company that mostly made arcade games for Neo Geo machines in the 90s. While they mainly could be known for the Magical Drop series that is still getting sequels and re-releases today, they also developed Ghostlop, another fast-paced puzzle game for Neo Geo. Much like Compile, the poor company fell apart and died when it couldn't make a successful sequel on the disc-based media that was available to them. Thankfully, they had someone to pick up the pieces for them, like SEGA did with the Puyo series... albeit not as instantly. Though the rights to all of Data East's intellectual property were bought by G-Mode, a company that makes mobile games, the French Golgoth Studio ended up developing Magical Drop V for PC, and did a pretty darn good job of it!
