N Harmonia (full name Natural Harmonia Gropius) is, simply put, the most amazing Pokémon character conceived since Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. He is the pseudo antagonist and one of three 2/2CherenBianca rivals in Pokémon Black and White. He is notable for taking up many NPC roles at once, using a Legendary Pokémon, and for his infamous Puzzle Cube, an object which looks kinda like a Level 1 Menger Sponge (and NOT a Rubik's Cube).

Personality

  • Quote: N
I love ferris wheels you know. The circular motion... the dynamics... a beautiful combination of formulas...

N is a calm and understanding individual, open to hear your non-existent speech throughout the game. Being raised alongside Pokémon from a very young age, he can understand them and even gauge their relationships with their trainers. That aside, N does not believe that Pokémon should be used as tools for battle. Ironically, he becomes a trainer in order to separate Pokémon from humans in the first place. N also seems to have a certain interest in mathematics given his Menger Sponge, name, and even his reasons for loving ferris wheels. He is innocent, naive, whimsical, and earnest; he is unaware of the plot his sages and grunts are carrying out against him until it is revealed to his face.

Role in the games

In the game, N is one of the most unique trainers you'll ever fight. His team changes dynamically; each time you face him, he uses a different team (Although a predominant preference for Dark and Steel types is noticeable). He is also the only rival and villain you'll battle that has an Event Pokémon, a Legendary Pokémon, AND an All-American Pokémon all on the same team. N also finally catches up with other classic Nintendo villains 4/4BowserGanondorfKing DededeCorderia with his own castle to serve as his home base, complete with an evil pipe organ theme and his creepy toy room.

Spoiler warning: the information below may contain detailed descriptions of major plot events. Feel free to skip past this section if you wish.

Before the gameplay even begins, N is seen being crowned the leader of Team Plasma by Ghetsis in the opening anime. N is met early on in the plot line, and is one of the first trainers you fight. Later on, he appears numerous times, slowly revealing personal details about himself and his connection with the beloved fighting Pocket Monsters. Eventually, in Raimon City, N invites you to ride his favorite attraction, the Ferris Wheel, to come to a better understanding with you. He reveals that he is the "king" of Team Plasma, and that he and Ghetsis had been in cahoots the whole time. After that, N appears to revive an ancient Pokémon, Reshiram or Zekrom, depending on your version. And then he proceeds to kick the ass of the Pokémon League, becoming the champion. N then summons his castle and attaches it to the Pokémon League building, forcing you to give chase (because apparently Alder said so). Finally, after capturing the other mascot, N battles you in a climatic epic battle in his throne room. Afterwords, N is about to repent and reflect upon himself when Ghetsis appears. Ghetsis reveals that he is N's father, and "admits" that his own son is leopard failure that will never understand humans, being the monster he is. Consequently, he also reveals his evil plan to trick N into stealing everyone's Pokémons so he could rule the world in his hissy fit. This gets Ghetsis arrested, and N says his final good byes, disappearing forever. We then cry after losing the best villain ever into the obscurity of a plot ending... or maybe we shouldn't, given how a certain "good-looking" detective mentioned seeing an N-ish person. Only Nintendo and Game Freak shall know.

Spoilers end here.
