The Spiky-Haired Protagonist (SHP) is one of the two most often seen anime stereotypes. Usually, these characters are young teenage boys or young adults, with spiky hair in (usually) bright colors. The younger boys are often naive, mischievous, adventurous and have a strong sense of justice. Occasionally, you will find a SHP who is downright boyish or disgusting. And as you'd know by now, this is just a very common hair stereotype.

Obviously, main protagonists aren't the only ones with spiky hair. And some also seem to call them "Shonen Hair" because it appears on so many shonen series, it's not even funny.
