Red is one of the three primary colors, along with Green and Blue. All three of these colors have Pokémon trainers named after them.
Red is the color of fire, lava, blood and so on, and as such, it's been pretty universally accepted as meaning "danger", "stop", "bad", and so on. Strangely, the opposite code to this is either green or blue, depending on where you live.
Red is also used on wikis to indicate a link to a page that doesn't exist yet.
