A sword is perhaps the most basic of melee weapons, used in a vast number of games where any kind of combat is involved. Heck, even a couple of 2/2Schezo WegeyLagnus the Brave Puyo characters have them!
They're effective, relatively easy to use and look freaking cool. Sometimes you even forget that you're actually using one - "sword" just becomes a synonym for "weapon" itself.
