The Professor Layton games (And movie) tell of epic adventures lead by an archeologist gentleman of England and his little kid apprentice (And a girl, depending on the setting), going to mysterious towns, trains and futures to solve a need-to-solve mystery. And the epic part? It reminds EVERY SINGLE (Supposed) HUMAN BEING they've encountered to be reminded of a puzzle for such little stuff like the pair's mere presence!

Well, because that's been used to a rather ridiculous extent, it's as if the only reason why these games have plots is so you'd be dragged into some hair-pulling puzzle-solving to advance the (rather short) plot... which it is. And Level-5 did a really good job at doing this... which is a surprise, seeing how other companies have failed at doing this.
