Piracy is a derogatory term to describe someone who violates the copyright law. Digital piracy entirely consists of copying bytes from one location to another over the internet without permission of the author. That's really it.
Piracy is fun for the whole family: if you want a song, just download it and you'll be listening in minutes; if you want the latest video game, grab a torrent and get it overnight. After all, if it's music most of your money will go to a record company like Sony (the current head of Soviet Japan) and if you live in the western world you'd know that Communism is evil. And if it's a game it's probably yet another useless FPS, or it was made by SEGA.
DRM
DRM stands for Dumbass Restriction Methods, or occasionally Digital Rights Management. As you know, DRM fucking sucks. It's a way for companies to breathe down your back, spy on you, and put locks on your content.
Cracking
Because of the leopard failure that is DRM, we now present the greatest movements of the piracy groups.

Also known as DVD Jon, he was involved in the cracking of the original DVD encryption and is partly responsible for the ability to watch pornography DVDs on Linux. You know what the best part is? This bad ass DVD cracking bastard got away without being charged - after a history of cracking DRM and writing programs to circumvent it.

- This code flooded over the internet, especially Digg, when it was found. It's the AACS encryption key that could be used to decrypt an HD-DVD disk. As a response to this, Digg took an action that will forever be known as the most epic thing ever done by a website in the history of websites and ignored the DCMA takedown notice, and allowed all comments, pages, and other content revealing this code.

- You probably have heard of modchips before. If you live in Australia it might not turned out this way - Sony had sued a local retailer of modchips but lost the case.

- The court had ruled that modchips were not involved in copyright infringement because they did not in any way infringe copyrights. Yeah, we needed a motherfucking court to decide that.
Why anti-piracy groups are full of shit
Many people do not know this but all anti-piracy groups are, in fact, one hundred percent full of shit. This is because anti-piracy is yet another way to stop the balance between corporations and people and put more of the weight on corporations.
Along with patents, anti-piracy is basically just a way to not have to do good and still make over 9000 times more money than you deserved for something. If corporations really wanted to stop piracy, they should make people want to buy the product. Of course this won't be 100% effective but neither is anti-piracy. Anti-piracy's neighbor patents isn't much better - patents are a way to force yourself ahead of the competition whilst not having to do anything at all. A way to block any innovation for 20 years. Software patents are especially silly, as you can sometimes patent what is normally considered generic operations (LOL IM PATENTING UR CMP R0, #0 JNE __return'z!)
