Black Pierrot (EntityTopic, 7)

From Compile Worlds

Black Pierrot is the diabolical secret boss of the Magical Drop games, first appearing in Magical Drop II, claiming to be responsible for the corruption of the Empress. He is a tiny clown in a black jester suit with piercing red eyes, and is flanked by a peanut gallery of backup clowns in some of his appearances. Despite being obviously out for World Domination and having a penchant for being the hardest computer opponent in the game, he hardly has any involvement in the game's plotlines. In fact, it's kind of hard to take him seriously really, between his silly animations, puny stature, and theme music that sounds more like a casino brawl than a serious villain. However, it can be assumed that Black Pierrot uses his black magic woman (see what I did there?) to taint other people such as Empress and Fortune into doing the heavy lifting for him.

He doesn't appear in Magical Drop F (surprise, surprise), and is instead replaced by a character known as Burnz. Needless to say, it may have been a good move, because god knows how a "serious" depiction of Black Pierrot in the Playstation era would've been like.

Theme music

Like most of the characters who returned from Magical Drop III, Black Pierrot has kept his theme from III, "World Conquest", in all of his subsequent appearances. It has nothing on the actual final boss themes though, and instead sounds relatively goofy and childish, which is moderately appropriate for the character himself, especially with his peanut gallery back-up in III. In Magical Drop II, a much more sinister theme plays for his appearance, which sort of makes sense given his role in corrupting the Empress.

Etymology

"Pierrot" is french for clown, with the black being an obvious reference to his black outfit and his evil powers.
