Trains are a very expensive form of transport, second only to aircraft. This is because stupid companies like First Great Western are run by selfish greedy bosses that just want your money no matter what. And not only do they take your life savings away from you, they also confuse the hell out of you with enormous reels of tickets. Hey, maybe the price is really the cost of those damn tickets.

If you think it is a good idea to take a train for regular medium-distance journeys (say, 5-20 miles), think again. There's probably a bus service available at half the price, more easily accessible, more comfortable, more interesting to look out the windows of, and driven by cheerful friendly drivers... unless you happen to live in an area of the country monopolized by First in more than just the train service market. In which case, I feel very, very sorry for you.
