A Fire Flower, also occasionally called a Fiery Flower, is a flower that grants it's holder (or eater) the ability to fling fire balls. As such, these make great gift-basket treats and also make excellent fire-proof (or highly flammable) bouquets for any occasion. A Fire flower may also turn your shirt white and your pants a primary color, so be sure to wear something you half care about. This color though, easily comes out in the wash.
These flaming hot flora often appear in question mark boxes; usually only after one has consumed a red mushroom. This phenomenon is still unexplained, and groups the Fire Flower with other items like the Tanooki Leaf, the Cape Feather, the Blue Shell, and the Yoshi Wings. The flowers also have several different forms, but the two most often seen varieties are the Super Mario Bros. variety, and the Super Mario World variety (which resemble red tulips with happy faces).
The Fire Flower did not originally appear in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, but it has still appeared in a variety of Mario RPGs irregardless. In the Paper Mario series(Or at least the first one, it did 10 damage when used, while in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, it gave Mario and Luigi (and their Baby counterparts) the classic fire balling attack.
The hot plants also appear in the Smash Bros. Series, where they act as flame throwers. The Smash Bros. variety are also noticeably different in shape and color than most other varieties.
