Kagamine Rin and Len (鏡音リン・レン) are the second installment of the Vocaloid series and were released on December 27, 2007. Their family name was chosen by combining kagami (鏡 mirror) and ne (音 sound), with the first syllables of their given names a pun on "Left" and "Right". According to Crypton's official Vocaloid blog, the package includes two voice banks: one for Rin and another for Len, both provided by the voice actor Asami Shimoda. Despite the double voice banks, the package still sells at the same price as Hatsune Miku.
On June 12, 2008, Crypton announced that an updated edition, named "act2", will be released in early July 2008. Users who had bought the old version will get an expansion disc free of charge. On June 18, 2008, beta demonstration songs using the new version were released on the company's official blog.
Their only appearance in an anime is a cameo in (Zoku) Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei, where the twins and their fellow VOCALOIDs (alongside many other characters) try out to be Meru Meru's voice.
Len and Rin are represented by a banana and an orange respectively. As a pair, they are represented by an awesomely yellow road roller.
Interpretations
According to Crypton, they are not actually brother and sister, but are reflections of a mirror. A second theory says that they were originally unrelated (perhaps doppelgangers) and that Kagamine is their marriage name. However, the most common interpretation is that they are siblings.
Relationships
Len is madly in love with Rin, so much so that it regularly leads to twincest, even when he is being a player and scoring with Hatsune Miku or Meiko. His heart always belongs to his beloved sister. However, Rin, being an attention whore, will lead Len around like her slave and abuse his pure innocent love for her attention seeking needs.
Rin has a love-hate relationship with Miku, in which she loves to hate her. Rin is always super jealous of Miku and considers her the enemy, because she gets a lot more spotlight than her loli boobies do. Len, on the other hand, has been known to have the odd fling with Miku when Rin withholds sex from him. Both of the twins however seem to have an infatuation with Kaito, and have both had him in their bed at one point. Rin likes to abuse him from time to time like she does Len. Len sees Kaito as a big brother but also a perv and it was from Kaito that Len learned some of the higher points of being a ladies' man. There are also rumors between Len and Neru and lots of rumours about Rin and Kamui Gakupo.
Devil and Angel
Rin and Len are kinda like a devil and Angel. Rin is more often than not depicted doing horrible sinful things or lacking a heart or soul to stop her from acting like an evil spoiled brat. Len is her saving grace and often leads her from trouble or stops her sacrifices himself for her. Len has died many many times by Rin's hand and will probably die many more after. Rin will eventually throw herself into a nuclear reactor while Len keeps having Re_Birthdays.
