A question mark box (QMB) is a monomino decorated with a question mark. As seen in the image on the right, QMBs sometimes disguise themselves as brick blocks.

They appear in the Mario series to give you powerups, the most common ones being coins, red mushrooms, fire flowers, green mushrooms and starmen. No Mario game has gone without QMBs.

QMBs have also shown up rarely in real life.
