An edit is the primary unit of contribution to a wiki, done to a page.
Types of edits
Most edits fall into one of the following categories:
- Major edit
- The editor added some new information to a page, or created it from scratch.
- Minor edit
- The editor fixed some SPAG, formatted the page better or moved content around to be better organized.
- Tagging
- The editor changed the tags or categories on the page in accordance with accepted policy.
- Annoying edit
- The editor tried to add some content to a page, but the content was totally wrong or irrelevant.
- Vandalism
- The editor (usually a spambot or retard) inserted gibberish or advertising or removed legitimate content.
- Revert
- The editor changed a page back to a previous version. A self-revert occurs when the editor only removed their own changes.
Edit count
If you go to Special:Preferences, you'll see an edit count. Unsurprisingly, this is the total number of edits you've made. There is a great controversy over whether having a high edit count actually means you're a good wiki editor.
