'''Platformers''' are a well established genre of [[video game]]s.

They tend to fall into one of a few subcategories: those like [[Mario series|Mario]], those like [[Sonic the Hedgehog series|Sonic]], and those like [[Metroid]]. This even includes pretty much all the [[fangame]]s and [[indie game]]s.

They're also often split into [[2D]] and [[3D]]. Very few actually good 3D platformers exist. Notable good 3D platformers include [[Wario World]] and [[Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc]].
